It is the first espresso grinder featuring Mahlkönig’s Sync System, which automatically adjusts the grind based on data received from your espresso machine. If a shot runs too fast, the grinder refines the grind; if it runs too slow, it goes coarser, keeping every shot aligned with your target extraction time. Use it as a standalone grinder with full barista control, or sync it with a compatible coffee machine for automatic alignment. What is Grind-by-Sync?
Grind-by-Sync lets the grinder and a compatible espresso machine exchange data. When the machine reports that a shot ran too fast, the grinder automatically makes the grind finer; when a shot runs too slow, it makes the grind coarser. This keeps your extractions consistent without constant manual adjustments.

Do I need a compatible espresso machine?
Only to use the Grind-by-Sync function. The E80W GbS also works as a standalone grinder, with grind-by-weight, grind-by-time, and manual modes.

How does grinding by weight work?
A high-precision load cell measures the coffee in the portafilter in real time and stops grinding when the target dose is reached. You can also save recipes by time or grind manually.

Can it recognize different portafilters?
Yes. With Portafilter Detection turned on, you can save your portafilters by weight, and the grinder recognizes them when you place them in the holder.

How many recipes can I save?
Up to 6 recipes, each with its own mode (weight, time, or manual), disc distance, and optional Grind-by-Sync settings. You can choose which recipes appear on the home screen.

Does it need an internet connection?
No. WiFi and cloud are only needed for Grind-by-Sync through the cloud, the Mahlkönig Sync app, remote monitoring, and automatic software updates. The grinder works fully offline as a standalone grinder.

Can I stop baristas from changing the recipes?
Yes. The grinder has Owner and Barista access levels, and the owner can disable recipe editing for baristas and protect settings with a password. Baristas can still adjust the grind size.

How long do the burrs last?
The 80mm burrs have a grind life of approximately 1,500 kg at a median setting. The grinder tracks disc usage, and replacement burrs are available as an optional accessory.

Care & Maintenance

• When needed: Calibrate the load cell from the Service menu using a 1 kg reference weight, with the portafilter removed from the holder
• When needed: Calibrate the Disc Distance Detection from the Service menu by following the on-screen steps
• Software: Keep the grinder connected to the Mahlkönig Sync Cloud to receive software updates, or install them manually
• Burr replacement: Replace the burrs after approximately 1,500 kg of coffee and reset the disc usage counter in the Service menu
• Diagnostics: Use the System Diagnosis menu to test the motor, burr adjustment, load cell, fan, and lights if something isn’t working as expected
